[origin: EP1703116A2] An exhaust gas recirculation unit (10) has a catalyst portion (14) removing hydrocarbon by oxidation in an exhaust gas recirculation pipe (12) recirculating exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into an intake pipe. The catalyst portion (14) is provided in contact with an external surface of an exhaust pipe (20) of the internal combustion engine.
