[origin: EP1703211A1] Apparatus (1) for simulating a solid fuel flame includes a frame (4) within which is mounted a screen (5). An enclosure (6) is mounted below the screen (5) having a frosted glass refractor panel forming a top wall (10) of the enclosure (6). A cylindrical container (15) is rotatably mounted within the enclosure (6). A motor rotates the container (15) on a support. The container (15) is partially filled with a red or brown coloured liquid (26). Lamps (30) orLED's within the enclosure (6) are operable to shine light through the coloured liquid (26) In the container (15) and through the refractor panel (10) onto the screen (5). Movement of the coloured liquid (26), which may be enhanced by internal projections (25) in the container (15), causes flickering of the light projected onto the screen (5) to give a flame effect simulating a solid fuel fire.
