[origin: DE102005004740B3] The heat exchanger has heat transfer elements for the transfer of heat from a combustion gas through a heat transmitting wall (11) to hot water flowing in passages on the outer side of the heating transmitting wall. The heat transmitting elements are formed on the inner side of the wall and extend into a hot gas flue (19). In one section of the hot gas flue at least one transversely lying heat transfer element (50) has a cross section which has a larger extent at right angles to the direction of flow of the exhaust gas than that parallel to it.
