[origin: EP1703321A1] According to the present invention a method is disclosed for making a negative-working, heat-sensitive printing plate precursor capable of switching from a hydrophilic state into a hydrophobic state upon exposure to heat and/or infrared light, comprising the steps of (i) providing a support having a surface comprising titanium, (ii) modifying said surface by producing an oxide of titanium following the steps of (1) anodizing said support and (2) annealing said anodized support under reduced pressure. According to the present invention there is further disclosed a method for making a negative-working, heat-sensitive printing plate precursor capable of switching from a hydrophilic state into a hydrophobic state upon exposure to heat and/or infrared light, comprising the steps of (i) providing a support having a surface comprising titanium, (ii) modifying said surface by producing an oxide of titanium following the steps of (1) etching said support and (2) anodizing said etched support.
