[origin: EP1550703A1] Protective film produced in a monolayer without a carrier from a hot melt adhesive is new. Independent claims are also included for: (1) apparatus for applying a protective film of hot melt adhesive, comprising a main melting zone in which the adhesive is heated to its application temperature and an applicator unit through which the molten adhesive flows out to form a coherent film of presetermined width and thickness; (2) process for applying a protective film in which a hot melt adhesive is heated to its application temperature in a main melting zone and then flows out from the main melting zone, where the flow and the application temperature are controlled to form a film of desired width, and an article to be protected with the film is moved across the film so that the film covers the article in desired manner.
