[origin: WO2005073080A1] Disclosed is a protective device (14) for the drive unit (10) of a watercraft such as a sport motorboat, a fishing boat, or similar, especially with a Z drive. In order to prevent mussels or algae from growing on the drive unit (10) while the watercraft lies in the water, the protective device (14) is embodied as a housing (16) comprising at least two dimensionally stable housing shell parts (18) that tightly rest against each other with the closing edges (22) thereof, which have matching shapes, while tightly resting against the hull of the watercraft with an opening edge (24) in the interconnected closed state thereof so as to sealingly enclose the drive unit (10) that is to be protected. The housing shell parts (18) are made of a lightproof material.
