[origin: EP1709890A2] Variable-size sprung bed or sofa base (5), whose size is capable of being varied within a pre-established range in both its length and width dimensions, depending on the size of the people due to lie or sit thereupon, or in view of complying with particular requirements, such as on grounds of adaptation to overall styling or the like. The sprung bed or sofa base (5) is comprised of a plurality of separate elongated staves (9) with a convex curvature, made of a suitable wood having marked elastic properties, or staves associated to and assisted by springs, or just springs of either metal or other suitable elastic material, or again simple support boards of any suitable kind. The sprung bed or sofa base (5) is made to a standard size, so as to be able to sustain average-size persons, and is adapted to cooperate with lengthening means (14,27) and widening means (22) adapted to increase the length and the width, respectively, of the same sprung bed or sofa base (5) within a pre-established variation range. Various embodiments of the inventive sprung bed or sofa base are described.
