The piezo actuator (2) is accommodated in a hollow space (4) within the injector housing (27) which is filled with a fuel volume (5) that is subject to great pressure. The inventive fuel injector is characterized in that the diameter (17) (d2) of a sealing edge (9) in the base area (6) of the actuator corresponds to the diameter (16) (d1) of the transmission piston (15).
