[origin: WO2005068925A1] Disclosed is an apparatus for cooling a hot flowing medium, particularly compressed air discharged from a compressor. Said cooling apparatus comprises a cooling member in the form of a cooler grid which is penetrated by the medium that is to be cooled, said cooling member acting as a heat exchanger, and a fan system for directing a flow of cooling air onto a substantially flat cooling air inlet area of the cooling member. According to the invention, the fan system encompasses at least one, preferably several radial fans while a preliminary pressure chamber is disposed upstream of the cooling air inlet area of the cooling member, said preliminary pressure chamber being provided with at least one air intake port to which the air outlet of one respective radial fan is connected.
