[origin: WO2005072579A1] The invention relates to a coffee machine (110) having a drawer (122, 210) which can be pushed into the coffee machine (110) in a substantially horizontal manner with the coffee pad inserted therein so as to supply the machine with a coffee pad. In order to provide a simple and reliable possibility for supplying the coffee pad to and removing it from the coffee machine (110), a coffee pad retainer (220) is located in the drawer (122, 210) and is at least partially encircled, in the pushed-in state of the drawer (122, 210), by a retaining device that can be displaced in a substantially vertical manner so that the coffee pad retainer (220) can be lifted by means of the retaining device. When the coffee pad retainer (220) is lifted, a brewing chamber (330) enclosing the coffee pad is formed.
