[origin: GB2408269A] A silver solder of the Ag-Cu-Zn family comprises at least 55 % by weight silver and 0.5-3 % by weight germanium. The alloy preferably comprises (by weight): 55-77 % Ag, 10-30 % Cu, 8-15 % Zn and 0.5-3 % Ge. Optionally this alloy may also comprise 0.05-0.4 % Si and/or 1-3 % Sn and/or 1 ppm - 0.3 % B. The alloy, which may be in the form of rod, strip, wire or paste, may be used to solder Sterling silver joints.
