Abstract (en)
[origin: FR2865219A1] The process, in which a metal oxide is applied to a substrate in the form of a colloidal solution of a metal hydroxide which is then transformed into an oxide by pyrolysis of a gel obtained from the solution, uses an initial colloidal solution that is applied in a thixotropic state obtained by concentration or by adding an organic or inorganic ingredient such as an acetate or formate. The substrate can be of metal, ceramic or glass, and the metal oxide is selected from aluminum, silica, zirconium, titanium or albanite, and it can be porous or non-porous. the metal oxide coating can be applied to the substrate in a series of successive layers with a chemical composition, structure or porosity gradient.
