Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2406664A] An application program, e.g. Java (RTM), on a mobile wireless information device runs a self registration process when executed 305. The registration takes the form of a wireless transmission of registration data 340 from the device to a remote registration server for storage. The transmission may be an SMS text message and the registration data may include a program identifier, a device identifier and a registration server identifier. The device user may be prompted to authorise the transmission 330, and if denied, the program either quits or repeats a request for registration transmission 335. The registration data may also be stored on a memory element of the device 310 for reference when the program is again executed. The invention allows the application developer to monitor use of their software, the device user to be informed of modifications/updates and allows automatic optimisation of the device.
