[origin: WO2005080079A2] The invention relates to a device and a method for determining the quality of illustrations of printing plates by means of an especially optoelectronic sensor for detecting a reference mark that is disposed inside or outside the printing area and comprises different reference fields. An evaluation unit is provided for evaluating the measured values determined by the sensor. The sensor is configured so as to detect at least two reference marks located on the printing plate. Each reference mark encompasses a combination of reference fields comprising at least one density step reference field and at least one structured reference field, or at least one reference mark comprises at least one density step reference field while at least one additional reference mark comprises at least one structured reference field.
