[origin: WO2005087374A1] The invention relates to a catalyst containing a porous support, which has cavities that open onto at least one face. Said openings have a diameter of approximately 0.7 to 20 nm, at least in one extension direction. The support has a specific surface area of at least 500 m<2>/g and is also charged with a content of at least one catalytically active metal component amounting to at least 2.5 m<2> per gram of catalyst. The invention also relates to a method for producing a catalyst of this type and to the use of the latter in methanol synthesis or as a reformer in fuel-cell technology.
