Apparatus for moistening a web of material, comprising a device for supplying a moistening medium to a nozzle system via a distributor chamber, comprises a pressure-reducing device connected to the distributor chamber. An independent claim is also included for moistening a web of material by supplying a moistening medium to a distributor chamber transverse to the web and ejecting the medium through a nozzle system, where the pressure in the distributor chamber is reduced when the web speed decreases.
