[origin: WO2005089594A1] An item of furniture for sitting and lying upon comprises a carriage (4), which can be retracted from a frame and which has a seat frame (5) that supports a seat cushion (6). The item of furniture also comprises a cushion (9) for lying upon that, when the item of furniture (1) is in a position for sitting upon, is located under the seat frame (5) and when the item of furniture (1) is in a position for lying upon, is level with the seat cushion (6). Said cushion for lying upon is supported by a bed frame (8) which, itself, is supported at the front by a raising bar (18) and can be raised above or lowered below the retractable carriage (4). A driver (24) assigned to the carriage (4) acts upon the raising bar (18) in order to raise the bed frame (8). The inventive item of furniture is characterized in that the raising bar (18) is joined to the bed frame (8) in a manner that enables it to pivot and to be displaced in a direction of movement of the carriage (4), and that the bed frame (8) is supported in the vicinity of its rear end via a roller (26) guided on a guide (29).
