Abstract (en)
[origin: WO2005088029A1] The invention relates to a panel element (10, 12) for a covering (11), particularly a floor covering, wall covering or ceiling covering. This covering (11) has a number of similar interconnected panel elements (10, 12), and the panel element (10, 12) has a base (13, 15) with a thickness (D), this base (13, 15) having differently contoured longitudinal sides and differently contoured faces. One longitudinal side has a groove-like contour and the other longitudinal side has a tongue-like contour corresponding thereto. The faces are designed for locking with adjacent panel elements from above. A lower limb (16) protruding from the face of the base (13, 15) is provided on at least one face, and an upper limb (44) protruding from the face of the base (13, 15) is provided on the opposite side. A detent projection (30) is provided on one limb, preferably on the upper limb (44), and a detent opening (20) is provided on the opposite limb, preferably on the lower limb (16). The detent projection (30) protrudes from the limb by a height (h1). The ratio of the thickness of the base (D) to the height (h1) of the end of the detent projection is greater than 3.5.
