Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1726371A1] The method involves controlling an automatic controlled tray handling system, during a sorting pass, if a tray is full, to transfer the full tray on a full tray conveyor which is stopped to bring an empty tray in the pass. The logical destination of another sorting pass is assigned to a third sorting pass having an empty tray, if a tray is full in the latter pass. The conveyor, at the end of the pass, is advanced to transfer all the trays present in the former pass. The conveyor is advanced to transfer all the trays present in the latter and third passes. An independent claim is also included for a postal sorting machine for implementing a postal item sorting method.
