The facing mats (18, 19) are unrolled, simultaneously to the heading, in the longitudinal direction of the heading so as to overlap laterally and are instantly fixed in the rock. Once the facing mats (18, 19) have been entirely unrolled, the working steps are successively repeated with new facing mats (18, 19) that adjoin the facing mats (18, 19) already laid in accordance with the length of the heading. The heading support (7) is introduced at a distance to the cutting tool (3) while fixing the facing mats (18, 19).
