The present invention relates to a method for mounting a camshaft onto a cylinder head of an internal combustion engine, said camshaft being supported by several sets of cam carrier and cam cap, each set being independently disposed at every journal section of the camshaft, wherein at least the cam carriers are mounted onto said cylinder head using a shaft-like jig, wherein an outer diameter of a portion of the jig, which corresponds to the journal section of the camshaft, is set larger than an outer diameter of the journal section of the camshaft:
