[origin: WO2005087420A1] The invention relates to a device for separating profile pieces on an extruded profile strand (1) moving along the longitudinal direction thereof, with a carriage (3), comprising a separating unit with a saw blade (7) and at least two clamp jaws (5, 6) to hold the carriage (3) to the profile strand (1) without slipping and a controller (13) connected to the separating device, controlling the clamp jaws (5, 6) and the separating device depending on a given profile piece length. According to the invention, advantageous construction conditions can be achieved, whereby the separating device is provided with a knife (8) displaceable perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the profile piece (1) and the controller (13) comprises a selector switch (16) for the optional separate of a profile piece with the saw blade (7) or the knife (8).
