Abstract (en)

Resonant wood is exposed to the action of a type of fungus that decomposes the wood. The type of fungus and period of treatment are chosen to increase the ratio of velocity of sound of the wood to the bulk density of the wood while preventing strength values of the resonant wood from falling below predetermined minimum values. The types of fungus utilized occur naturally on spruce and maple, preferably Asco-und Basidiomycetes from the family of Leotiaceae, Polyporaceae, Schizophyllaceae, Tricholomataceae and Xylariaceae.
