[origin: WO2005101142A1] A hardware control system and method for use with industrial plant or machinery, the hardware control system includes an input means for receiving information from a plurality of input lines an output means for transmitting operating instructions to a plurality of output lines, a microprocessor in communication with the input means and output means, said microprocessor capable of processing the information received and communicating resulting operating instructions to the output means, at least one hardware control line in parallel to the microprocessor being in communication with the input means and output means, said at least one hardware control line being capable of communicating the information received, from at least one of said input lines, directly to the output means, and designation means for designating which input lines will provide information to be communicated through the at least one hardware control line and which input lines will provide information to be communicated through the microprocessor. The system may be used in a safety system for industrial machinery.
