[origin: EP1575241A1] The multimedia gateway has a first function block for setting up a multimedia data transmission with subscribers of the first network according to the specific protocol of this network, whereby message data and signaling data including performance characteristics are separately temporarily stored in respective first stack memories. The memories are signal specific and status sensitive. The gateway has a second function block for setting up a multimedia data transmission with subscribers of the second network according to the specific protocol of that network whereby message data and signaling data including performance characteristics are separately temporarily stored in respective second stack memories. The memories are signal specific and status sensitive. The system also has a third function block for translating the signaling data including performance characteristics and the message data between the first and second function blocks.
