Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005100907A2] Disclosed is a position sensor, particularly a magnetorestrictive position sensor, in which a displacement measuring element extends in the longitudinal direction of the sensor, along the distance that is to be measured. A locator that triggers the signal is movable relative to said displacement measuring element in the longitudinal direction. The inventive position sensor comprises an elongate housing in the form of a hollow, circumferentially closed profile (1) having a cross-sectional contour that remains identical in the longitudinal direction (10), a waveguide unit located inside the profile (1), the waveguide of said waveguide unit extending in the longitudinal direction (10) of the profile (1), evaluation electronics located inside the profile (1), and a carriage which is movable in the longitudinal direction (10) along the outside of the profile (1). The signal trigger is embodied especially as a magnet. The profile (1) is designed so as to be positionable in a positively defined manner in a transversal direction within a circular inner contour that surrounds the outer contour of the profile (1) along more than 180 DEG of the circumference thereof while being rotatable inside said inner contour.
