[origin: WO2005108192A1] The invention relates to a tailgate assembly of a motor vehicle, comprising a first, upper tailgate section (15), which is fixed to a bodywork section (11) by means of a hinge device (16) and can be pivoted about an axis that runs in the transversal direction of the vehicle and a second, lower tailgate section (15), whose upper edge, when closed, adjoins the lower edge of the upper tailgate section (14) and which can be pivoted outwards in relation to the upper tailgate section (14) by means of at least one articulation mechanism (19). According to the invention, the articulation mechanism (19) is guided in at least one guide track (23), thus enabling the lower tailgate section (15), when pivoted outwards, to be displaced translationally in relation to the upper tailgate section (14).
