[origin: WO2005108889A1] Disclosed is a household appliance comprising a corpus (1) and a door (2) which surround an interior (3), and a light source (14) for illuminating the interior (3). The inventive household appliance further comprises a door opening sensor for detecting the open or closed state of the door (2) and adjusting the mode of operation of the light source based on the detected state of the door (2). The door opening sensor encompasses a light sensor (12) which is exposed to ambient light when the door (2) is open while being isolated from said ambient light when the door (2) is closed.
