[origin: WO2005106806A2] Disclosed is a method for identifying the person depositing suspicious banknotes at an automatic teller machine (ATM), according to which the deposited banknotes are subjected to an authenticity test in the ATM and are classified into authentic, forged, and unsuspicious bills in accordance with the result of the authenticity test, whereupon the suspicious banknotes are subjected to another test outside the ATM. The inventive method is characterized in that at least the banknotes that are considered suspicious are provided with an imprint in the ATM which allows said banknote to be unambiguously associated with a specific transaction.
