In a method for applying a liquid to pasty coating medium to a fibrous sheet (1) moving in a direction (L), using a curtain coating device (3) to deliver a free-falling curtain of medium, moved by shear force, directly onto the sheet surface in an impact line (P) on a free train or supported region of sheet, the front edges (1.1, 1.2) of the sheet are wetted with fluid before the curtain strikes the sheet surface. An independent claim is included for corresponding coating apparatus, including at least one fluid delivery device (4) which delivers fluid jets (4.1, 4.2) to wet the front edges of the sheet before the curtain strikes the sheet surface.

Die Erfindung betrifft ein Verfahren zum Auftragen von flüssigen bis pastösen, insbesondere mit Spezialverdickern angereicherten Auftragsmedien, auf eine in Laufrichtung (L) laufende Papier-, Karton- oder andere Faserstoffbahn (1) bei deren Herstellung und /oder Veredelung mittels einem Vorhang- Auftragswerk (3), welches einen im Wesentlichen schwerkraftbedingt bewegenden, frei fallenden Auftragsmediums-Vorhang (2 ) direkt an die Oberfläche (1a) der laufenden Faserstoffbahn (1) abgibt und wobei der Vorhang (2) in einer Auftrefflinie (P) entweder auf einen freien Bahnzug oder auf einen, die Faserstoffbahn (1) durch ein Stützelement abgestützten Bereich auftrifft. Erfindungsgemäß werden die stirnseitigen Ränder (1.1; 1.2) der Faserstoffbahn (1) mit einem Fluid benetzt, bevor der Auftragsmediums- Vorhang (2) die Auftrefflinie (P) erreicht. Die Erfindung betrifft außerdem eine Vorrichtung.
