[origin: WO2005119195A1] An aspect of the present invention relates to a sensor unit (2) comprising a sensor (5) for detecting a gaseous, steam or liquid medium, said sensor (5) comprising: a first electrode (12a) and a second electrode (12b) separated by a substrate (11), said substrate comprising at least one chemical compound at a point adjacent to at least one of said first electrode or second electrode, said substrate is absorbent; and said at least one chemical compound reacts with said gaseous or liquid medium; said sensor unit (2) further comprising: a signaling device (14) electrically coupled to said sensor (5) and arranged to be powered by said sensor (5), wherein the signaling device (14) comprises means for generating a signal (110).
