Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005114945A1] The invention relates to a method for authenticating a communications unit (KE) in which a secret code word (CWD) is programmed in a permanent memory (SP) in order to reliably verify the communications unit (KE), and during a logging-in process of the communications unit (KE) to a service provider in a communications network (KN), the secret code word (CWD) is used for generating a message (NA) that is sent (1) to the service provider. This message (NA) is used for verifying whether the communications unit (KE) authenticated therewith is authorized to obtain a service (DN1). The inventive method is advantageous in that a communications unit (KE), which is connected to a communications network (KN) via an access point (ZP1), is clearly identified. As a result, it is ensured that services (DNx) of a communications network (KN) are obtained only with corresponding appropriate communications units (KE) that are authorized by the communications network operator.
