Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2005106355A1] The invention relates to a method of maintaining the quality of the snow cover (3) on the surface of a piste (2) at an indoor facility for skiing or practising other winter sports, whereby the facility comprises: a thermally-insulated hall (1) which covers the piste (2), snow-producing means (4), and means (5) for regulating the temperature of the ambient air inside the hall (1). The inventive method consists in varying the temperature of the ambient air in the hall (1), using the temperature regulation means (5) and regular or substantially-regular cycles, between: a first temperature T1, which is preferably slightly positive, between 1 and 5 °C, such that the surface of the snow cover (3) melts partially, said temperature (T1) being maintained for a time t1 which is less than the time necessary for the snow cover (3) to melt completely; and a second temperature T2, which is preferably negative, between 10 and 2 °C, such that snow is produced by the corresponding production means (4), said temperature (T2) being maintained for a time t2 during which a sufficient quantity of snow is produced in order to replenish the snow that melted during time t1. The length of the temperature cycles is preferably of the order of 24 hours.
