[origin: EP1757543A2] The lay has a band distributed over the width of a feed table accomplishes a speed profile (22) between an aligning position at the table and a resting position, which is remote from the table. The front lay stands in contact with stop units, which are adjustable within an adjusting range in its position in the aligning position. The lay passes through the adjusting range of the stop unit with a constant speed.
