[origin: WO2005122507A1] The invention relates to a method and a device for monitoring the traffic of electronic messages submitted by a sender (1). The aim of the invention is to provide a device for monitoring the traffic of electronic messages submitted by a sender (1) which reliably informs the user if and which electronic messages failed to reach their destination or reached the destination with delay or were not read by the recipient (2). For this purpose, the inventive device is provided with receiving means for receiving information regarding a submitted electronic message and for receiving a control message including selected information on the receipt and/or acknowledgment of the electronic message by a recipient (6); storage means (9) for storing information for identifying the submitted electronic message and a time allowed for receipt of the control message; monitoring means (13) for monitoring reception of control messages; allocation means (14) for allocating a received control message to the pertaining submitted electronic message using the information for identifying the electronic message; inspection means (15) for inspecting the content of the control message; and notification means (16) for outputting a notification if no control message is received within the time allowed or if the control message indicates an error in receipt and/or reading of the electronic message by the recipient (6).
