[origin: WO2006011881A1] Dispenser apparatus (1, 3) for dispensing flexible sheet material (1001) including material- recognition apparatus permitting the dispenser to recognize sheet material from an authorized source and to be enabled for operation with such material. The material-recognition apparatus may include a sensor (138) mounted in the dispenser in position to scan a code (10 19), preferably located on the core (1005) on which the sheet material is wound. The sensor generates a code signal corresponding to the code. A control circuit (49) receives and validates the code signal. Sheet material dispensing is allowed if the code is valid or is not allowed if the code is invalid.
