[origin: WO2006002962A1] The invention relates to a drive for a web machine, comprising a ratchet wheel (5) which can be driven by means of a main drive motor (7) and which can be axially displaced between at least two switching positions. Said ratchet wheel is drivingly connected to two groups of elements (9, 10, 11; 12, 13, 14) which are to be driven, in a first switching position, and is separated from one of the groups of elements (12, 13, 14) which are to be driven, in a second switching position. According to the invention, a device (15) which becomes active in relation to one of the groups, during separation from the drive connection, is provided, said device comprising a toothed element (22) which engages in a toothed wheel (12) of the group of elements (12, 13, 14) which are to be driven and which are separated from the ratchet wheel (5).
