[origin: EP1764199A2] The device comprises a punch (80) driving the staple into the stack of paper and a device (60) for pressing the wire sections into the appropriate shape. The shaping device (60) is laterally moved when the punch (80) moves downward. A wire clamping lever (63) is swivel mounted to the shaping device (60) and provided with a cam (65) guided along a specifically curved surface (72,73,74,75) in order to facilitate an upward motion of the punch (80) parallel to the downward motion of the shaping device (60) avoiding a collision of the components.
