Abstract (en)

[origin: WO2006005561A1] The invention relates to the use of a combination of an oxocarboxylic acid with metal ions, organic bases or polymers that are substantive in relation to keratin material, for controlling, suppressing or eliminating smells emanating from the hair or the skin. Preferred oxocarboxylic acids are of general formula R-C (=O) -A-CO2H wherein R represents hydrogen or a monovalent organic radical, and A represents a divalent organic radical or a single compound. A preferred combination is zinc levulinate and can especially be used to control unpleasant smells caused by sulphur compounds e.g. after permanent wave treatments.
