[origin: EP1770044A1] In an elevator speed governor, a pulley around which a speed governor rope is looped is rotatably supported by a base. A ratchet, which is provided with an engaging strip for actuation and can rotate around a pulley shaft of the pulley, is supported by the base. The pulley is provided with an engaging mechanism having a pawl, which is engaged with the ratchet to rotate the ratchet in the same direction as the pulley when the rotational speed of the pulley has reached a set overspeed. A rope holding mechanism for braking the speed governor rope is disposed below the pulley. An actuating lever for actuating the rope holding mechanism by being pressed by the engaging strip for actuation and displaced is coupled to the rope holding mechanism. A groove portion, into which a part of the engaging strip for actuation is inserted, is formed in the base. The groove portion extends in a direction so that the engaging strip for actuation moves.
