[origin: EP1772274A2] An ink cartridge for use in an ink jet recording apparatus which is structured to be horizontally mountable to an accommodation portion of an ink jet recording apparatus in a mounting direction is provided. A first penetration opening is provided in a front surface in the mounting direction through which an ink supplying part for supplying ink to an ink jet recording apparatus from an ink storing chamber provided in the cartridge is exposed to the outside of the cartridge and a second penetration opening is provided in the front surface through which a detected part configured to be detected by a sensor provided in the ink jet recording apparatus is exposed to the outside of the cartridge, and the first penetration opening and the second penetration opening are both arranged offset from the center in an alignment direction extending perpendicular to the mounting direction.
