[origin: WO2006013169A1] The invention relates to a method for guiding a vehicle driver along a route during which, for guiding, guiding instructions are generated and output. These guiding instructions indicate maneuvers to be executed at decisive points along the route. The invention is characterized in that for generating a guiding instruction, information existing for the relevant decisive point is checked whether an object suited for orientating is located in the vicinity of the decisive point, and in that in the event one such object exists, a guiding instruction is generated and output that refers to this object. The invention also relates to a memory and to a navigation system for carrying out this method. The invention provides, with regard to prior art navigation systems, an improved output of guiding instructions that are based on objects that are easily identified in street or general traffic signs. The invention significantly contributes in reducing the distraction of the vehicle driver from road traffic and thus to road safety.
