Abstract (en)
[origin: GB2416957A] A CDMA base station transmits a signal to a subscriber unit comprising a data signal and two reference signals that assist in the recovery of the data in the data signal by the subscriber unit. The base station also transmits the relative powers of the reference signals to the subscriber unit. The transmission may include a third reference signal. In a UMTS communication system the reference signals may be the CPICH (common pilot channel), PSCH (primary synchronisation channel) and SSCH (secondary synchronisation channel). The relative powers are used to scale the PSCH and SSCH before subtraction from the downlink signal, so that despreading and descrambling of the data signal is not hampered by the presence of the PSCH and SSCH signals in the downlink broadcast.
