[origin: WO2006015893A1] The invention relates to a method for testing the function of a high-pressure pump (20) comprising several pump elements (24-26), each of which delimits a working chamber (28-30), which is connected by a suction valve (32-34) to a low-pressure area (38), from which fuel can be siphoned and by a pressure valve (40-42) to a high-pressure area, which comprises a central high-pressure fuel accumulator (44) for supplying fuel to an internal combustion engine. The high-pressure pump (20) transports the siphoned fuel from the low-pressure area (38) into the high-pressure fuel accumulator and the pressure of the fuel is detected by a rail pressure sensor (55). To provide a simple, cost-effective test method, the values detected by the rail pressure sensor (55) are used during the operation of the internal combustion engine to test the function of the high-pressure pump (20), when the latter is installed.
