Abstract (en)

[origin: GB2417908A] A golf training device comprises: an input arrangement which allows data to be entered concerning physical and playing characteristics of the golfer, the nature of the shot to be practised, and the intended club to be used; a calculating system which uses pre-collected reference data and algorithms to provide specified factors in an ideal address position or for weight transference during a stroke; and indicators which give visual and/or audible instruction to the golfer concerning these factors. The device may be incorporated with a striking mat having arrays of light emitting diodes to show the ideal ball position, the placement and angling of both feet, and the clubface alignment and position for addressing the ball, Figs 1 to 3 (not shown) with the personal and shot data being entered via a touch sensitive screen. Pressure responsive devices which distinguish between the heel and toe regions of both feet can be housed within the mat and provide analysis of weight distribution at address and weight transference during a playing stroke in order to give suitable instruction, as in Fig 4b where the upper diagram gives the player weight distribution at address, the lower diagram a calculated preferred distribution and the instruction can be provided on the screen or audibly, or in Figs 5, 7 and 8 (not shown) where the diagrams relate to dynamic changes and the instructions are suggested after each stroke has been completed.
