The rear (10) of a motor vehicle (12) and a rear hatch opening (18), whereby the rear hatch opening (18) comprises an opening boundary (20) and the rear hatch (12) comprises a rear hatch edge (13) and the rear hatch (12) can adopt a closed position (12c) and an intermediate position (12b), different from the closed position (12c). According to the invention, the opening boundary (20) and the rear hatch edge (13) have an overall essentially constant separation from each other in the intermediate position (12b).
