[origin: EP1788598A1] A device has an antenna (109) for emitting electromagnetic signals towards an electrical appliance (2), and a reception unit (110) for receiving the electromagnetic signals. The antenna detects a control signal comprising data representative of identification of the appliance. A mobile coupling unit establishes or interrupts an electromagnetic coupling between the antenna and the reception unit based on the position of a mobile part, e.g. handle (5), of the electrical appliance. An independent claim is also included for monitoring a position of a mobile part of an electrical appliance.
