Embossing pins (3) are arranged on the outer surface (2) of the embossing roller (1), and/or their end surfaces are dimensioned so that the engagement area is substantially constant during a complete rotation of the embossing roller. The engagement area strips are rectangular in shape, corresponding to the sum of the widths of all part rows. Independent claims are included for a method of forming an embossed pattern, and for a paper handkerchief.
