Abstract (en)
[origin: EP1460010A2] A continuous web of paper or carton winds onto a spool core (108) that is directly driven and rotated by a synchronous electric motor ('torque motor') (12) attached to the machine frame. The motor is located at the axial end zone of the core. The rotor of link fitting (18) is or can be directly coupled to the core drive interface (24). The core may be part of a dry cylinder in a dry section, or a winding core forming part of a spool. Also claimed is a process to operate a commensurate machine. Further claimed is a process to retro-fit a torque motor in place of prior art drive systems.
