[origin: WO2006018159A1] The invention relates to a method for sorting postal items (SKBf, GBf, MBf) according to formats. The method is characterized in that: postal items (SKBf, GBf, MBf) having at least two formats are fed by first conveying means (20) to a sorting location; postal items (GBf, MBf) of a first format are removed from the first conveying means (20) in the area of the sorting location at a number of sorting stations (30) arranged one behind the other in a direction of conveyance of the first conveying means (20), and are fed to a second conveying means (40), which, in the area of the sorting location, extends laterally next to the first conveying means (20), and; the postal items (SKBf) with other formats remain on the first conveying means (20). The invention also relates to a device suited for carrying out the aforementioned method.
